Physical Therapy Plus Rehab offers a wide range of therapies. In fact, your Therapist will likely use a combination of several therapies at different stages in your recovery. We will monitor the effectiveness of each one closely to ensure you are getting the optimal benefit.

Aquatic Therapy

Our Monticello location features a state-of-the-art pool for private Aquatic Therapy, which is the newest and most innovative form of physical therapy. Immersed in a supportive, warm water environment, the body is less stressed by the drag of gravity. Water adds resistance, but also assists with movement, making it easier - and often faster - to improve mobility, strength, and function. You do not need to be a swimmer to participate in Aquatic Therapy.

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy is a general term that refers to a number of techniques a Physical Therapist will use, including stretching, therapeutic massage, joint mobilization, and myofascial release. Manual physical therapy is a hands-on approach to the assessment and treatment of many conditions that affect muscles, fascia, nerves, and joints.

Therapeutic Exercise

Almost every physical therapy program involves a therapeutic exercise component. The program will be developed specifically for your injury and your fitness level. Exercises may include stretching, strengthening, and/or endurance training.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a form of heat treatment that can be very effective in alleviating the pain and inflammation associated with soft tissue injuries, such as muscle sprains, bursitis, and tendonitis. When the 'soundhead' is gently moved over the injured area, the ultrasound makes high frequency sound waves, which vibrate tissues deep inside the injured area. This creates heat that draws more blood into the tissues and activates the healing process.

Paraffin

Paraffin therapy reduces pain and stiffness around joints by removing excess fluid from the surrounding tissue while providing lubrication. Paraffin is especially beneficial in the treatment of arthritis, bursitis, tennis elbow, overworked and fatigued muscles, and scar tissue. It is also beneficial for many types of sports injuries.

Electric Stimulation

Electric Stimulation can be used for acute and chronic pain relief, swelling reduction (edema control), muscle strengthening and re-education.

Soft Tissue Mobilization

Myofascial release, or soft tissue mobilization, is a hands-on therapy used to release tension stored in the fascia, which are sheets of fibrous tissue that encase and support muscles, separating them into groups and layers. Fascia also covers joint capsules and ligaments. The techniques used in myofascial release help to break up adhesions and relaxes muscle tension, which will help improve motion within the joint.

Massage

Massage is a popular relaxation technique frequently used in Physical Therapy to reduce muscle tension and increase circulation. Localized massage can help warm the body up before exercise.

Traction

Traction unloads painful joints and intervertebral discs to reduce pain, disc herniation, and decompresses arthritic narrowing of the spine.

Hot/Cold Therapy

Heat and ice are two of the most common types of therapy, often used before exercise therapy. The warmth of the heat pack reduces muscle spasms, relaxes tense muscles, relieves pain, and can increase range of motion. Cold therapy slows circulation, reducing inflammation, muscle spasm, and pain.

Balance Training

A plan to improve your balance will help you gain control and prevent falls. Treatment consists of strengthening key muscle groups, improving balance reactions, and integrating visual information.
